Hydra-Sports began its journey in 1973 as a bass boat like no other, with a V-bottom, hand built of fiberglass—lighter weight, strong, durable, fast, and able to cut through chop. “No compromise” was the premise of Hydra-Sports fishing boats founded by Joseph C. Reeves, an avid fisherman in Tennessee when he realized there weren’t any affordable high performance bass boats for fishermen. Hydra-Sports was credited with being the first boat builder to use the V-pad hull and in 1976, worked with DuPont to use Kevlar in the hull for greater performance. Hydra-Sports boats were recognized nationwide as the largest and best riding boats in their class.
The 1990s saw expansion into the saltwater market with a line of center console outboard fishing boats that were able to compete in offshore tournaments and win against inboard sportfish boats! Hydra-Sports continued to innovate with features that became standards, such as incorporating a Frigid Rigid insulated cooler, designing a second-row seat, known as a “sleigh seat,” and the first with 3 electronic screens on its helm dash (2009), along with superior construction and composite technologies. Today, Hydra-Sports, now rebranded as custom luxury fishing yacht builder, HCB, offering the ultimate customer experience, through “Crucero” Design Centers.
This 2016 Hydra-Sports 4200 Siesta is a luxury “gentlemen’s” fishing center console with quad Yamaha LF350XCB 4-stroke outboard engines for a total 1400hp, capable of a 39-knot cruise and top speed of 58 knots. The Siesta was built utilizing the computerized Eastman system for laying fiberglass and precisely controlling weights for balance and stability. The hull and deck are formed and bonded together after the one-piece stringer/bulkhead system is set inside the hull with the Weld-On structural adhesive fastening system. The double right angles (support knees) of the foam-filled stringers aft end attach to the transom to create strong support for the outboard engines’ jackplate (quad 300hp = 4000lbs) and move energy from engines throughout the hull, reducing stress on the transom, which is cored ceramic—a material from the aviation industry that is stronger than steel and non-porous! Hydra-Sports’ super sturdy construction method, with Kevlar reinforced keel, produces a solid, smooth ride in the roughest offshore conditions.
