The subject vessel is a typical inland-style motorized houseboat built of all welded steel construction at the Breaux Brothers Shipyard in Loreauville, Louisiana in 1961. The vessel was reportedly purpose-built as a push boat for Boh Brothers Construction Company and later converted to a houseboat.
The subject vessel has a typical raked bow, elliptical stern, a flush deck with a single-tier house, and shallow dead-rise bottom with hard chines.
The subject vessel is built with bottom and side plating estimated to be 3/8" original thickness, 5/16" deck plating and 1/4" cabin plating. Hull framing is transverse constructed of 3" x 4" angle members, spaced on 24" centers. The hull is additionally longitudinally framed throughout the Engine Room.
Hull protection is by means of a rub rail fender system constructed of 1/2" thick, 3" diameter steel pipe. The fender system consists of the main strake located at the Weather Deck and surrounding the outer perimeter of the hull and a second strake located 2' below the Weather Deck surrounding the stern and is continuous until the forward rake at the bow. A vertical strake is located between the first and second horizontal strakes amidships on both sides of the vessel.
Deck fittings consist of two (2) 3" cross bitts on each side located at the forward and aft quarters of the vessel. A three-tier guardrail surrounds the outer perimeter of the First and Second Deck with embarkation/ debarkation openings located at the forward centerline and near the fore and aft quarters of the vessel. The guardrails are constructed of 2" vertical tubing with 1/4" flat bar on top and two (2) wire rope cables located between the top of the guardrail and the deck. An embarkation/ debarkation gangway is located forward on the centerline of the vessel.
There are two (2) non-watertight solid wood doors located at the fore and aft ends of the Deckhouse, which allow access from the Weather Deck. Additionally, there is a watertight aluminum door located on the port side near midship providing access to the Engine Room.
The deck is flush with no bulwarks. Bulkheads are constructed of steel and appear to be watertight.
The lower hull consists of a Forward Void Compartment which also houses an electric bow thruster motor and a dehumidifier. The Second Void Compartment contains potable water tanks on the forward port and starboard sides. The Third Void Compartment is on the centerline and has fuel tanks on each side. The Fourth Void Compartment is an Engine Room. The Fifth Compartment is a void and the Sixth Compartment is a rudder and steering compartment.
