Description

A rare find, this Hatteras Convertible has been lightly used and current ownership is by a marine professional who acquired it in 2008. As result of his updating, this is a reliable vessel that is ready to use and presents itself well. The Detroit Diesel/Covington 6-71TI engines have had updating with portside having been completely overhauled and starboard with reasonably low original hours. This boat has always lived in South Florida and now offered as her owner is planning on downsizing. A teak interior, galley up interior with 2 staterooms and one head. This boat is close to original in most respects and will be a good platform for a new owner looking for a value opportunity to get into a quality built convertible that is ready to use this Summer.

Boat is located at a private residence in the Palm City area of Stuart, FL. Some advance appointment may be needed for showings.

General Description

One of the 41' Hatteras convertibles referred to as next-generation design in this model's run from 1986 to 1991, with a restyled deckhouse featuring a rakish flybridge, solid front windshield, stepped shearline, and solid sea keeping qualities. This layout with the galley up to port, the has salon seating on a sectional sofa to the starboard side. Hatteras teak interiors had set the standard for all convertible builders during this time period. The walk-around queen berth forward with head entry door is comfortable and accommodating. A couple of closets and several large drawers afford good storage for staying aboard. The guest stateroom has upper lower berths and a nice closet also.

Set up for cruising or fishing/diving, there is a walk-through transom door to a fiberglass swim platform with a couple of folding deck chairs. For fishing days drop down the pair of double-spreader Rupp outriggers. There is an underdeck fish box and tackle center forward with cockpit sink. Safe passage to the foredeck is assisted by her full bow and deckhouse railings. There is a practical anchoring system with new Maxwell electric windlass, fiberglass pulpit with Fortress anchor and rode. The spacious flybridge has an extra large top to keep from getting overdone by the sun. It's aluminum framed with a white Stamoid canvas and the bridge cushions are in excellent condition since they are always stored indoors.

Salon and Galley

Entering the salon from the boat cockpit up two steps through the hinged door with window, the exterior is framed in varnished teak. Inside the open deckhouse area has a L-shaped settee to the starboard side aft with an end table and lamp at the forward end. To portside is the galley area with almond Formica countertop trimmed with a teak fiddle spill rail, a newer Whirlpool black laminate front refrigerator/freezer aft, a three-burner Galley Maid electric stovetop and oven, a white U-line ice-cube machine, and a brushed stainless basin sink with faucet. Forward and above behind a tambour door is a GE microwave oven. The lower cabinet contains 3 drawers, 2 cabinets and an under the sink cabinet. Both the sectional sofa and ottoman have storage beneath their lift off cushions. There are also 2 large storage areas in the starboard side cabinet to the side of and behind the TV. The deckhouse windows are treated with pull-down, pleated Duette-style shades. Nautical theme navy blue and white decor pillows are on the settee. The side deckhouse windows can slide open if needed. To the starboard side forward is a teak tambour door cabinet which houses a Samsung flat panel TV. A couple baskets of artificial plants are above. The outboard side of the salon has soffits with down spot lighting which are controlled on a dimmer switch. Settees are a beige ultra-suede, and the carpeting is a neutral color, patterned short pile. Center companionway steps lead down forward to the staterooms.

The interior of this boat is clean and tidy with no abuse or wear detectable and no odors.

Staterooms and Head

At the base of the steps to starboard is the Guest Stateroom with upper-lower twin berths with reading lights and teak bed rails. A hull side opening portlight (opaque) gives some natural lighting and ventilation if needed. Drapes are there also for sleep-in days. A good-sized, full-length teak closet is aft, drawers beneath the lower bunk, a full-length mirror on the back of the teak door, and a fan control knob for the A/C. There are off-white vinyl wallcoverings, blue shell and sea-life print bedspreads, and a carpeted sole.

Across the hall is the teak entry door to the Head, with tan-swirl marble-look solid surface vanity top and molded sink with faucet. The outboard above the counter is all mirror with a slide opening medicine cabinet. The toilet is a fresh water SeaLand Vacuflush and there is an exhaust fan on the mirror just above. A separate shower compartment with clear plexiglass framed with aluminum has a molded seat, opening hullside (opaque) portlight, and wand style shower fixture. There is a switch for the sump pump and toilet and indicator lights for pump and holding tank. Vinyl laminate sole and a second door which leads privately into the master stateroom.

All the way forward is the Master Stateroom with teak cabinetry, closets, doors, bed rails, and trim. A walk-around, centerline, queen berth has a blue and while designer stripe print bedspread with built in bedstands to either side of the bed. Above by the forward bulkhead is the door which opens into the anchor locker. An opening overhead deck hatch (solid) can provide ventilation or emergency egress if needed, plus two hull side opening portlights (opaque) to either side. Two drawers and a lower cabinet are on both sides of the berth and a teak hanging lockers are on both sides aft as well. There are two decorative 110v table lamps on the countertops above the cabinets and nearby the AC thermostat on the forward bulkhead. The sole is carpeted and there is a private entry door to the head.

Broker Comments

ALIKAL is a solid 41' Hatteras which shows a high level of care taken by her knowledgeable owner. The "original" Hatteras features have not been modified or junked up as with many similar age sisterships. It's possible that she's only had 3 owners since new, spending her life in Florida. This spec offers a general summary of the updates, but personal inspection is suggested to appreciate the extent of the work completed.
